On September 3, 2019, Daniel Young Kwon, a 77-year-old Korean-American man, left his residence at the Sugar Loaf Summit Apartments in Lawrenceville, Georgia, and was never seen again. Despite being paralyzed from the chest down and reliant on a motorized wheelchair, Kwon maintained a degree of independence, often driving his silver 2011 Honda Odyssey. That day, he departed wearing a white hat and dark-colored clothing, embarking on what seemed like a routine outing. However, his failure to return home marked the beginning of a perplexing and distressing mystery.
Following Kwon's disappearance, his daughters took swift action to locate him. Utilizing cellphone tracking, they traced his device to an area near Sugarloaf Mills Mall in Lawrenceville. Unfortunately, the phone's battery died before they could pinpoint his exact location. Two days later, a significant development occurred: Kwon's minivan, wheelchair, and backpack were discovered abandoned at the Sugar Loaf Summit Apartments, the very complex where he resided. This discovery deepened the mystery, as it suggested he had returned home, yet there was no sign of him.
As the investigation progressed, attention turned to Mi Young Jeon, an acquaintance of Kwon's from church. Jeon was found in possession of Kwon's wheelchair and minivan. When questioned, she claimed that Kwon had left with some friends two days prior and she was unaware of his whereabouts. However, her possession of his personal belongings raised suspicions. Further complicating matters, a substantial sum of money was withdrawn from Kwon's bank account after his disappearance, though the exact amount was not disclosed. Despite these red flags, authorities stated they lacked sufficient evidence to make an arrest.
Kwon's daughters, Grace and Katherine, have been unwavering in their efforts to find their father. They have made public appeals for information, emphasizing the urgency due to his medical needs and dependence on his wheelchair. "He cannot escape if kidnapped because he doesn’t have his customized wheelchair in which he’s dependent upon," Grace stated. The family has also offered a reward for any information leading to his whereabouts, hoping to encourage someone to come forward....Read More
