A Mother’s Routine Morning Turns Into a Mystery

On the morning of June 9, 2020, 42-year-old Chenell Renee Gilbert, a beloved mother, grandmother, and substitute teacher, was last seen in the Sungate housing edition near Rockville and South Girl’s School Road on the far east side of Indianapolis, Indiana. She had planned to return to her daughter's home early that afternoon but never arrived and has not been heard from since. Her sudden disappearance has left her family and community searching for answers.

The Immediate Search and Family's Efforts

Concerned by her absence, Chenell's daughters attempted to contact her, but their calls and messages went unanswered. Upon arrival, they found her car parked outside, but the ex-boyfriend claimed she had left without entering the house and refused to let them search the premises. Police were called but were also denied entry until a search warrant was obtained days later.

Discovery of Personal Items and Investigation Challenges

An item belonging to Chenell was later found near West Morris and South Sigsbee Streets, approximately a mile from where her car was located. Authorities have not publicly released further information about this discovery. Despite extensive searches and community efforts, no significant leads have emerged, and the case remains unsolved.

Transition from Missing Person to Homicide Investigation

Initially treated as a missing person case, the investigation was later reclassified as a possible homicide due to the lack of contact and evidence of Chenell's whereabouts. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department has stated that the case is ongoing, but no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified. ...Read More
