In the summer of 1997, a routine sightseeing trip took a heartbreaking turn when Karen Lee Johnston, a 41-year-old Anchorage native, vanished without a trace. Alongside her husband, Donald Clyle Johnston, and close friends Monte and Linda Parrish, Karen embarked on a flight from Merrill Field on June 29, 1997. They boarded a yellow-and-white Cessna 182 , possibly heading for a scenic tour over Denali National Park. That flight would be their last known path into history.
