Robert Reid, Jr., then aged 57, departed Anchorage’s Merrill Field on August 17, 1999, piloting a PA‑28 aircraft , bound for Whitehorse in Canada’s Yukon Territory. His last radio transmission occurred approximately ten miles from the Canadian border—an ominous sign, as neither he nor the aircraft was ever seen or heard from again.
