On January 7, 2016, 69-year-old Andrew Henry departed from Ruby, Alaska, embarking on a snowmachine trip to the nearby village of Galena. This route, familiar to many in the region, typically follows the Yukon River—a vital artery connecting remote communities. However, Henry never reached his destination, prompting immediate concern among residents and authorities. The Alaska State Troopers were notified, and a search operation was swiftly initiated.
Clues Along the Frozen River
Search teams traced Henry's snowmachine tracks along the Yukon River. Approximately two miles upstream from the Yuki River, they discovered that the tracks veered into an open hole in the ice. Divers were deployed to investigate the area, and they recovered Henry's snowmachine from the frigid waters. Despite this significant find, there was no sign of Henry himself.
