A Quiet Day Turns Mysterious

On April 25, 1993, Clyde Prentiss Ellis Jr., affectionately known as “C.P.”, vanished without a trace near the Walkiah Bluff Campgrounds along the Pearl River in Picayune, Mississippi. At 36 years old, Ellis was last seen enjoying a day near the river—a common pastime in this serene area. However, what began as a peaceful outing ended in a perplexing mystery that has remained unsolved for over three decades.

The Discovery of an Abandoned Boat

Later that day, Ellis’s boat was found partially submerged approximately a quarter-mile downriver from the campgrounds. The vessel's condition suggested a sudden and unexplained incident, but there were no signs of Ellis himself. Personal Details and Distinctive Features

Clyde Ellis Jr. was a white male, standing 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing around 150 pounds. He had blond hair and green eyes. At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a white polo shirt, a gray jacket, jeans, and gray boots. Notably, Ellis had a steel rod implanted in his neck—a result of previous injuries—and dental fillings, both of which could aid in identification. He was also known to have a previously broken nose and may have had a plug of bone removed from his femur.

The Investigation and Its Challenges

The Pearl River County Sheriff's Department spearheaded the investigation into Ellis's disappearance. Despite their efforts, the case presented numerous challenges. The lack of witnesses, minimal physical evidence, and the river's dynamic environment complicated search efforts. Over time, the trail grew cold, leaving investigators with more questions than answers....Read More
