Sherri Vanessa Holland, a 34-year-old Atlanta resident, was last seen on August 16, 1996, departing her vacation home in Flagler Beach, Florida. She planned to return to her primary residence on Peachtree Battle Avenue in Atlanta, Georgia. Accompanied by her two dogs, Gracie and Bear, she set off in her gold 1987 BMW 325i. However, she never arrived, and her disappearance remains one of the most perplexing cold cases in Georgia's history.
Eight days after Sherri's departure, on August 24, 1996, her BMW was found abandoned on the northbound shoulder of Interstate 75 near Morrow, Georgia, approximately 15 miles south of Atlanta. The vehicle had a flat front tire caused by a nail. Inside the car, authorities discovered a loaded .38-caliber revolver, over $2,400 in cash, and Sherri's purse. Notably absent were her wallet and suitcases. The car's presence at that location was confirmed by a state trooper's dashboard camera footage from the night of August 16, indicating it had been there since the day she vanished.
On August 26, 1996, two days after the car was found, Sherri's dogs were located near the Stratford Arms apartment complex in Riverdale, Georgia, about two miles from where the BMW was discovered. Tragically, Bear had been struck by a vehicle and died, while Gracie was found alive and later returned to Sherri's sister. Witnesses reported seeing Gracie wandering the area, and one resident noted that the dog attempted to lead him toward a wooded area across from the apartments. A search of the woods yielded no evidence related to Sherri's disappearance.
Investigations revealed that Sherri operated an escort service in Atlanta, known as Atlanta Super Models, since 1992. Her business partner claimed that Sherri had installed hidden cameras to record clients in compromising situations, allegedly using the footage for blackmail. He also mentioned that Sherri had made several enemies and that there had been discussions about harming her. However, a former employee disputed these claims, suggesting that the partner himself was untrustworthy and might have had ulterior motives....Read More
