A Life Rooted in Akutan

Demetri Alec Tcheripanoff Jr., affectionately known as "Boy," was born on May 14, 1983, and was a lifelong resident of Akutan, Alaska—a small, tightly knit Unangax̂ village nestled in the Aleutian Islands. Standing 5'6" tall and weighing 140 pounds, Demetri was a Native American man with black hair and brown eyes. He was known for his deep connection to his community and his family, particularly his children. His tattoos bore testament to this bond: his daughter's baby footprint with her name "Veronika" and birthdate March 28, 2010, on his right forearm; and two baby footprints on his left forearm with the names "Brandon" and "William," both dated March 11, 2012, in green ink.  

The Day He Disappeared

On July 2, 2019, Demetri was last seen walking alone on the beach near Three Falls, just outside of Akutan. Witnesses reported that he appeared depressed and was carrying a handgun. He encountered his daughter Veronika and her cousins, who were hiking to take photos near the waterfall. Surprised to see them, Demetri sat and talked with Veronika for a while.
