A Routine Errand Turns Into a Mystery

On July 10, 1992, 71-year-old Clarence Ruffin left his home in Avondale, Louisiana, around noon to get a haircut on Morgan Court. It was a familiar routine in a neighborhood he knew well. However, Clarence never returned, and he has not been seen or heard from since. His sudden disappearance has remained an enduring mystery for over three decades.

A Vulnerable Man

Clarence was a Black man, approximately 5'10" tall and weighing 175 pounds. He had graying black hair and brown eyes. At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing blue or brown pants, a black shirt, black suspenders, and light-colored shoes. He also wore a blue cap. Clarence suffered from Alzheimer's disease and a heart condition, requiring regular medication. His medical conditions made him particularly vulnerable, especially if he became disoriented.

Disappearance Without a Trace

Clarence was last seen walking to a barbershop in the 100 block of Morgan Court. Despite extensive searches and investigations, no trace of him has ever been found. He had no history of leaving without warning, and his disappearance was entirely out of character. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office has been handling the case, but few details have emerged over the years.

The Community's Response

Clarence's disappearance deeply affected the Avondale community. Neighbors and local residents joined in search efforts, hoping to find any clue that could lead to his whereabouts. Despite their efforts, the lack of evidence has left the community with more questions than answers. The case has been featured on various missing persons platforms, including The Charley Project and The Doe Network, to keep his story alive and encourage public assistance. ...Read More
