A Quiet Life in Thoreau

Barbara Ann Gould was a 73-year-old resident of Thoreau, New Mexico, a small community nestled near the Zuni Mountains. Known for her distinctive green eyes and petite stature—standing between 5'1" and 5'3" and weighing approximately 115 to 120 pounds—Barbara was a familiar face in her neighborhood. Despite facing mental health challenges, she maintained a presence that left a lasting impression on those around her. The Day She Disappeared

On November 13, 2018, Barbara was involved in an altercation with the driver of a vehicle in which she had been traveling. Following the dispute, she exited the vehicle and was left in the Zuni Mountains off of Forest Road 180. This remote area, characterized by dense forests and rugged terrain, posed significant challenges for any search efforts. The following day, concerned neighbors reported her missing after noticing her absence and being unable to contact her. This prompted the Cibola County Sheriff's Office to initiate a search operation.

Immediate Search Efforts

In the days following her disappearance, the Cibola County Sheriff's Office deployed extensive resources to locate Barbara. Search teams utilized drones, K9 units, and ground personnel to comb the Zuni Mountains and surrounding areas. Despite these efforts, no trace of Barbara was found. The challenging terrain and vastness of the area complicated the search, and as time passed, leads grew scarce.

The Investigation Continues

Over the years, the investigation into Barbara's disappearance has remained active. The Cibola County Sheriff's Office has continued to follow up on any new information, and the case remains open.
