The following day, a hiker discovered his backpack, fishing rods, and dog near the edge of Skilak Lake down Hidden Creek Trail, where the Kenai River flows into the lake. His truck, a blue and white 1989 Ford F-350 with Alaska license plate JKE628, was found parked at the Hidden Creek trailhead.
