On December 21, 2013, 14-year-old Manuel Michael Anthony Ruiz disappeared from the area of North 16th Avenue and West Glendale Avenue in Phoenix, Arizona. Despite extensive efforts by law enforcement and his family, no confirmed sightings or leads have emerged in the years since his disappearance. Manuel's case remains one of the many unresolved missing persons cases in Arizona, leaving his loved ones in a state of perpetual uncertainty.
Born on November 16, 1999, Manuel was a biracial teenager of Hispanic and Native American descent. He stood 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighed approximately 120 pounds, and had black hair and brown eyes. A distinguishing feature was a two-inch scar on the back of his right hand. Manuel was known to use several aliases, including Anthony Avendano, Manuel Avendano, Michael Ruiz, and Daniel Rodriguez. At the time of his disappearance, he had recently moved from Winslow, Arizona, to Phoenix with his mother, Teresa Avendano, and his brother, following the unexpected death of his father.
Manuel was last seen in the vicinity of North 16th Avenue and West Glendale Avenue in Phoenix. While he had a history of running away, he always returned home or maintained contact with his family. However, on this occasion, he vanished without a trace. There were initial speculations that he might have traveled back to Winslow or remained somewhere within the Phoenix area, but no concrete evidence has surfaced to support these theories.
Teresa Avendano, Manuel's mother, has been unwavering in her efforts to locate her son. She has collaborated with various agencies and utilized multiple resources in her search. Despite the passage of time and the absence of new information, Teresa remains hopeful. In a 2024 interview, she expressed the anguish of not knowing her son's fate, stating, "It's been 10 years since, and as a mother, it's the worst gut-wrenching feeling of not knowing." ...Read More
