A Journey Westward Ends in Mystery

In July 2018, 59-year-old Richard Cambria departed his hometown of Manahawkin, New Jersey, embarking on a cross-country road trip that would take him through California and Nevada. His travels included a month-long stay in Santa Barbara, California, before he journeyed to Sparks, Nevada, on November 12, 2018. The following morning, surveillance footage captured Richard checking out of the Nugget Hotel and Casino in Sparks. This would be the last confirmed sighting of him. 

Discovery of an Abandoned Vehicle

On November 25, 2018, the Washoe County Sheriff's Office contacted Richard's family to inform them that his 2014 metallic silver BMW X5, bearing New Jersey plates, had been found parked near the Tahoe Meadows trailhead on Route 431. The vehicle had been legally parked but was towed because it obstructed snowplow operations. Inside the SUV, authorities found Richard's fully charged cell phone turned off, his luggage, and most of his belongings. Notably, the car key was missing.
