Vanished in the Northwoods: The Unsolved Disappearance of Norbert “Tony” Dantzman

A Family Reunion Turns Tragic

In late August 2019, 89-year-old Norbert “Tony” Dantzman traveled from his home in Crescent City, California, to Winter, Wisconsin, to attend a family reunion commemorating the centennial of his family's farm. Accompanied by his daughter and son-in-law, Tony checked into the Northern Lights Motel on August 29, 2019. The following morning, August 30, around 9:00 AM, surveillance footage captured Tony leaving the motel alone on foot. He was last seen walking north toward the Norwood Trailer Court. Witnesses reported seeing an elderly man matching Tony's description walking through the trailer court and continuing north on County Highway W. Tony has not been seen since. 

An Urgent Search Begins

Upon realizing Tony was missing, his family contacted the Sawyer County Sheriff's Office. A Silver Alert was issued on August 31, 2019, and search efforts commenced immediately. Law enforcement, search and rescue teams, and volunteers conducted extensive ground and air searches using canines, ATVs, drones, and helicopters.
