A Night Out Turns Into a Mystery
On the evening of March 28, 2017, Debra Elizabeth Puente, affectionately known as "Debi," joined friends for a night out at the Longhorn Bar & Grill in San Diego's Grantville neighborhood. Between 10:00 and 11:00 p.m., she left the bar, expressing to her friends that she needed to drive around for a while to give her live-in boyfriend time to leave their shared residence following an argument. This was the last time anyone reported seeing Debra.
An Abandoned Car Raises Alarms
A week later, on April 5, Debra's black 2013 Hyundai sedan was discovered abandoned on Santa Cruz Avenue near Bacon Street in Ocean Beach, a neighborhood she frequented. The vehicle had accumulated parking tickets, the earliest dated March 30. Inside the locked car were her wallet, identification, keys, shoes, and socks.
