On February 23, 1997, two-year-old Ruben David Felix vanished from his family's property near the Little Wood River in Shoshone, Idaho. The day began unremarkably, with a gathering of family members at Tanupa Ranch. Ruben's mother departed for work between 4:00 and 4:30 p.m., leaving him and his younger half-brother in the care of their stepfather, Aurelio Mireles. At approximately 6:15 p.m., Ruben's grandmother arrived to drop off a relative and noticed several cars parked by the river. Shortly after returning home, she received a call informing her that Ruben had been missing for about two hours. The last sighting of Ruben was of him sitting in the front yard, drinking from his bottle .
Upon learning of Ruben's disappearance, authorities initiated an extensive search. Tracking dogs followed his scent for approximately 200 yards, leading from the house to an outbuilding, across a potato field, over railroad tracks, and through a pasture to the edge of the Little Wood River. A child's footprint was discovered in the snow near the riverbank, suggesting the possibility that Ruben had fallen into the river. Despite multiple searches of the river by divers and rescue teams, no trace of Ruben was found .
In late March 1997, over a month after Ruben's disappearance, his family found his bottle in the yard near the house where he was last seen. This area had been thoroughly searched multiple times, and the bottle had not been observed there previously. The sudden appearance of the bottle raised suspicions about the circumstances of Ruben's disappearance and whether someone had placed it there intentionally .
Years after the incident, Ruben's mother received a phone call from a man claiming to be an FBI agent investigating her son's case. The caller stated that Ruben had been traced to Guadalajara, Mexico, where he had allegedly been sold to a wealthy family, and instructed her to meet at the FBI office in Twin Falls, Idaho. However, upon arrival, she discovered that no one at the office was aware of such an investigation, and the agent who had originally handled Ruben's case had retired. This unsettling experience led her to believe that her son may have been kidnapped and sold, and she suspected that her ex-husband's family might have been involved ....Read More
