Russell “Russ” Bovit was a 30-year-old man living a tranquil life in Walden, Vermont, when he mysteriously vanished in May 1986. Known for his love of the outdoors, Russ was an avid mountain climber and skier. He was also a part-time student at Lyndon State College, with plans to attend the University of Vermont in the fall. At the time of his disappearance, he resided on the Last Resort Farm, a dairy farm he had purchased from his ex-girlfriend in 1979. In early 1986, he sold the farm back to her and was preparing to move to Stowe, Vermont, where he intended to buy a condominium.
On the evening of May 6, 1986, two friends visited Russ at his farmhouse. They last saw him around 9:00 p.m., watching television. The following morning, Russ failed to attend an 8:00 a.m. appointment with a real estate agent to discuss the condominium purchase in Stowe. This absence was uncharacteristic and raised immediate concerns among his friends.
On May 7, 1986, Russ's light blue 1974 Renault was found abandoned and stuck in the mud on a dirt road approximately four miles from his residence. An acquaintance discovered the vehicle and noted that it appeared no serious effort had been made to free it from the mud. There were no signs of Russ or any of his personal belongings near the car.
A subsequent search of Russ's farmhouse revealed disturbing evidence. His wallet and all personal belongings, including clothing and credit cards, were left behind. Investigators found blood on his mattress, which had been flipped over, seemingly in an attempt to conceal the stains. Blood was also discovered in the trunk and passenger side of his car. Testing confirmed that the blood in both locations belonged to the same individual. ...Read More
