A Quiet Afternoon Turns Into a Mystery
On the afternoon of July 25, 2012, Maria “Marlies” Jansen, a 76-year-old resident of Pacifica, California, vanished without a trace. She was last seen by her husband near their home on Park Pacifica Avenue around 5:30 p.m. Jansen, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease, was known to be an avid walker, often frequenting the nearby trails of San Pedro Valley Park.
An Immediate and Intensive Search Effort
Following her disappearance, local authorities launched an extensive search operation. The Pacifica Police Department, with assistance from the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Department and other neighboring agencies, deployed search and rescue teams.
