Pepita Madalyn Redhair, a 27-year-old Navajo woman from Crownpoint, New Mexico, was a student at the University of New Mexico and worked at Hot Topic in Albuquerque. She was known for her artistic talents, love for skateboarding, and a vibrant personality that endeared her to many. Her aspirations included becoming an engineer or a teacher, and she maintained close ties with her family, particularly her mother, Anita King.
On March 24, 2020, Anita King dropped Pepita off at her boyfriend Nicholas Kaye’s residence in Albuquerque. This was the last time Anita saw her daughter. Pepita and Nicholas had been in a relationship since 2016, living together in Albuquerque. However, their relationship was reportedly troubled, with Pepita confiding in her mother about instances of domestic violence and Nicholas's excessive drinking.
Anita became concerned when she couldn't reach Pepita after March 27, 2020. Despite multiple attempts to contact her daughter, there was no response. On March 28, Anita filed a missing person report with the Albuquerque Police Department (APD). Initially, APD was hesitant to classify Pepita's case as a disappearance, citing that adults are free to go missing voluntarily. This response left the family feeling unsupported during a critical time.
Nicholas Kaye reported Pepita missing on April 19, 2020, stating that they had gone out drinking on March 26, met another man, and after an argument, Pepita left on foot. He claimed to receive a text from her the next day, saying she was with another man. However, this account raised suspicions, especially given the delay in reporting her missing and his lack of cooperation with the investigation. ...Read More
