A Journey Interrupted: The Last Call
On July 31, 2014, Javier Monico Alcocer, a 46-year-old man from Mexico, embarked on a journey to cross the Mexican border into the United States near McAllen, Texas. During this attempt, he made a final phone call to his wife, reporting that he had been bitten on the arm by an unknown creature and was feeling unwell. He mentioned experiencing a fever and expressed a desire to halt his journey. Javier also indicated that he might turn himself in to immigration authorities. The Trek Through the Borderlands
Javier was part of a group attempting to cross the border, guided by an individual familiar with the terrain. According to this guide, after walking for approximately three hours away from McAllen, they still had about two more hours to reach their intended pickup location.
