A Veteran Fisherman’s Final Voyage

Lawrence Vincent O’Grady, affectionately known as Larry, was a seasoned fisherman with over three decades of experience navigating the treacherous waters of the Bering Sea. Born on December 14, 1961, in Seattle, Washington, Larry grew up in Edmonds and graduated from Woodway High School in 1980. His passion for the sea led him to a lifelong career in commercial fishing, a profession that demands resilience and courage. Larry was known for his friendly demeanor, infectious smile, and love for cooking, especially barbecuing for friends and family. In 2006, after a 17-year engagement, he married Gail Plummer, solidifying a partnership that was cherished by those who knew them.

The Fateful Journey of the F/V Destination

In February 2017, Larry joined the crew of the F/V Destination, a 110-foot Seattle-based fishing vessel, for a crab fishing expedition in the Bering Sea. The crew comprised six men: Captain Jeffrey Hathaway and crew members Lawrence O'Grady, Kai Hamik, Charles "Glenn" Jones, Darrik Seibold, and Raymond Vincler. Departing from Dutch Harbor in the Aleutian Islands, the vessel was heavily loaded, carrying an additional 10,000 pounds of bait for their crab pots.
