A Routine Voyage Turns Tragic
On April 2, 2001, the fishing vessel Arctic Rose embarked on what was expected to be a standard fishing expedition in the Bering Sea. Among its crew was 23-year-old James Mills from Dillingham, Alaska. The vessel, however, met a tragic fate, sinking approximately 205 miles northwest of St. Paul Island. All 15 crew members aboard, including Mills, were lost to the sea.
