Angela Ungaiak Chingliak was a 31-year-old Alaska Native woman from Goodnews Bay, a small village on the western coast of Alaska. Born on December 25, 1980, she was known in her community for her warmth and resilience. Angela was part of a tight-knit population where subsistence living and strong family ties are central to daily life. Her disappearance in 2012 left a lasting void in both her family and the broader community.

The Day Everything Changed: September 7, 2012

On September 7, 2012, Angela was aboard a small boat with two other residents of Goodnews Bay—Sam Pavala, 49, and Richard Ross, 57. The vessel was navigating the waters near the mouth of Goodnews Bay, an area known for unpredictable weather and hazardous sea conditions. Tragically, the boat capsized, leading to a fatal accident. Pavala and Ross were pulled from the water but were pronounced dead at the local clinic despite resuscitation efforts. Angela, however, was never found and remains missing to this day .

The Search Efforts and Presumed Fate

Following the accident, search and rescue operations were initiated to locate Angela. Despite extensive efforts, including community involvement and official search teams, no trace of her was ever recovered.
