A Routine Journey Turns Tragic
On July 6, 1995, 16-year-old Theodore Bavilla embarked on what was expected to be a routine boat trip from Kulukak Bay to Togiak, Alaska. Navigating the waters in an open 19-foot skiff, Theodore set out alone, a common practice in the region where boating is integral to daily life. However, when he failed to arrive at his destination, concern quickly escalated. The following day, his skiff was discovered overturned on a beach at Rocky Point, but there was no sign of Theodore himself .
The Search Efforts
In the immediate aftermath of the discovery, extensive search operations were launched. Local authorities, community members, and search and rescue teams scoured the surrounding areas, both on land and at sea, in hopes of finding any trace of the missing teenager. Despite their exhaustive efforts, no additional clues emerged, and Theodore's whereabouts remained unknown.
