Dr. Paul Scott McCord was born on October 7, 1962, in Berlin, Germany, to Donald H. McCord. He pursued a career in medicine, completing his residency at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, a facility known for serving underprivileged communities. During his residency, McCord spent six weeks in Kotzebue, Alaska, which ignited his passion for the Alaskan wilderness and its people. This experience led him and his wife, Amy Wharton Price, to relocate to Barrow , Alaska, where he served as a dedicated physician .
The Fateful Journey
On October 27, 1996, Dr. McCord embarked on a 90-mile snowmobile trip from Barrow to Wainwright to attend to patients at the village clinic. Despite weather warnings about an approaching storm with gusts up to 52 mph and zero visibility, he proceeded with the journey.
