This routine was a testament to Rivera's vitality and his deep appreciation for the natural beauty of Oahu.
However, on March 17, 2008, this peaceful existence was disrupted when Rivera failed to meet Peschke for their usual hike. Concerned by this uncharacteristic absence, Peschke attempted to contact Rivera, but his calls went unanswered. This marked the beginning of a perplexing mystery that would leave Rivera's family and the Honolulu community searching for answers.
Initial reports indicated that Rivera was last seen by a friend at his residence on March 17, 2008. However, subsequent information revealed that he was spotted near the Dole Cannery on March 23, Easter Sunday.
