A Routine Voyage Turns Into a Mystery
On November 17, 2017, Fraser Haworth Horne, a 63-year-old seasonal resident of Cortez, Florida, embarked on what was supposed to be a routine boating trip from Egmont Key aboard his 30-foot vessel, the Golden Rush. Accompanied by his loyal golden retriever, Tu, Horne set out into the Gulf waters, a familiar environment for the experienced boater. However, when he failed to return as expected, concern quickly mounted among his family and the local community.
Discovery of the Golden Rush
The search for Horne commenced promptly after his wife reported him missing. The U.S. Coast Guard, along with local law enforcement agencies, launched an extensive search operation. On the evening of November 17, the Golden Rush was located approximately five miles northwest of Mead Point. The boat's engines were running, but it was found in neutral gear.
