A Community Shattered by Natural Disaster
On November 20, 2023, the serene town of Wrangell, Alaska, was abruptly transformed by a catastrophic landslide. The massive slide, measuring approximately 4,000 feet in length and 450 feet in width, descended upon the area near Mile 11 of Zimovia Highway, obliterating three homes and leaving a trail of devastation. The disaster resulted in the tragic loss of five lives and the disappearance of 12-year-old Derek Heller, whose whereabouts remain unknown.
The Heller Family: A Heartbreaking Loss
The Heller family bore the brunt of this calamity. Parents Timothy (44) and Beth (36), along with their daughters Mara (16) and Kara (11), were found deceased in the aftermath.
