Carlos Benjamin Urruela, known to his friends and family as "Ben," was a 26-year-old aspiring actor with a bright future ahead of him. Born on April 14, 1961, Carlos had attended prestigious prep schools in the San Francisco area and had already made appearances on several sitcoms under the stage names Ben Mann and Ben Day. Despite his early successes, Carlos struggled with a cocaine addiction, which had begun to take a toll on his personal and professional life. At the time of his disappearance, he was living in San Francisco and working at a hotel managed by his mother .
In the early hours of July 16, 1987, Carlos was last seen on the Golden Gate Bridge. At approximately 2:40 a.m., he exited his mother's car near Light Pole #34. The vehicle was later found parked on the bridge, but Carlos was nowhere to be found. The circumstances suggested the possibility of suicide; however, no body was ever recovered despite extensive searches, including a dive operation funded by his mother .
Carlos's mother, Suzanne Day, has been unwavering in her quest to uncover the truth about her son's disappearance. She has expressed skepticism about the suicide theory, noting that the Coast Guard was never called, and bridge cameras did not capture anyone jumping. Witnesses reported seeing a man exit the passenger side of the car, but no one saw a body fall from the bridge. Suzanne personally hired divers to search the bay and even joined them on a boat during the operation. She also received over fifty hang-up calls in the months following Carlos's disappearance, adding to the mystery surrounding the case .
The San Francisco Police Department has classified Carlos's case as an endangered missing person under suspicious circumstances. His information is listed in several databases, including the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) under case number MP3909. Physical descriptors note that Carlos was 5'11" tall, weighed 160 pounds, had brown hair and blue eyes, and was last seen wearing a black leather jacket, white painter's pants, and black shoes ....Read More
