On the morning of January 4, 2017, 32-year-old Reshaunda Therace Gerald left her Norfolk, Virginia home, telling her mother she would return by 3 p.m. to pick up her children from school. She was last seen getting into a black 2016 Nissan Altima driven by her ex-fiancé, Mark Morgan. That was the last time anyone saw or heard from her. Her sudden disappearance left her family and community in shock and initiated an extensive investigation into her whereabouts.
Reshaunda Gerald and Mark Morgan had a complicated relationship. Although Morgan was married, he and Gerald maintained an intimate relationship for about a year and a half. They had broken up due to Morgan's refusal to leave his wife, but they continued to communicate frequently, with records showing 45 calls between them from December 20, 2016, to January 3, 2017. On the day of her disappearance, Gerald's mother saw her enter Morgan's vehicle, marking the beginning of a series of events that would raise numerous questions.
Morgan told police that he picked up Gerald to help her pay a water bill. He claimed they then went to Portsmouth, visited a car wash, had sexual relations in the car, and he subsequently dropped her off near Lincoln Street and Olney Road in Norfolk. However, this narrative did not align with evidence gathered during the investigation. Traffic records indicated that the vehicle had not passed through the Elizabeth River Tunnels or the South Norfolk Jordan Bridge on the day in question, contradicting Morgan's account of traveling to Portsmouth.
Further investigation into cell phone records revealed that Gerald's phone was active near Morgan's residence in Chesapeake, Virginia, from 10:49 a.m. to 11:09 p.m. on January 4, 2017. Additionally, her phone pinged off a tower near the Fairfield Inn in Chesapeake, where Morgan claimed to have spent the night with his wife. These findings suggested that Gerald was in proximity to Morgan's locations well after he claimed to have dropped her off. ...Read More
