On April 16, 1990, in Richmond, Virginia, seven-year-old Jamal Abdul'Faruq and his eight-year-old brother, Basil, were dropped off by their stepmother at their mother's apartment on Clarkson Road. Their mother, Tambra Ellis, had worked a night shift and was resting when the boys went outside to play around 2:30 p.m. . This routine afternoon took a devastating turn when, upon waking, Tambra found both boys missing. After searching for 45 minutes, she contacted the police, initiating a case that remains unresolved decades later.
Three days after their disappearance, Basil's body was discovered in a Chesterfield County landfill, approximately ten miles from their home. He had been bound, gagged, and stabbed twice in the back, with a postmortem skull fracture. His body was placed in a plastic garbage bag and disposed of in a dumpster, eventually transported to the landfill. . The discovery intensified the search for Jamal, who remained missing.
Following the discovery of Basil's body, authorities detained the boys' father, Everett Abdul'Faruq, for questioning. Initial suspicions led investigators to search his residence, but no evidence was found linking him to the crime. Both parents were eventually ruled out as suspects. . The case presented significant challenges, including the lack of DNA testing capabilities at the time. Recent efforts have focused on re-examining evidence, such as duct tape found on Basil, with modern forensic techniques. .
Over the years, authorities have released age-progressed images of Jamal to aid in the search. These images, developed by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, depict how Jamal might look as an adult. . Despite these efforts and public appeals, no confirmed sightings have been reported. The Richmond Police Department continues to urge anyone with information to come forward....Read More
