On June 1, 2011, 34-year-old Daniel Keith Smith Jr. vanished without a trace from Grass Valley, California. Standing 5'7" tall, weighing 160 pounds, with long brown hair often tied in a ponytail and striking green eyes, Daniel's sudden disappearance left his family and community in shock. He was last in contact with his family in June 2011 and was believed to be living in unincorporated Grass Valley or possibly somewhere in South Sacramento.
A year after his disappearance, in June 2012, Daniel's maroon Honda Civic was located near the Buckeye Flat trailhead in the El Dorado National Forest, El Dorado County. The vehicle appeared to be abandoned and was next to an abandoned campsite. A search of the area was conducted by El Dorado County Search and Rescue with negative results.
Daniel Smith Jr. was born on November 19, 1976. At the time of his disappearance, he was 34 years old. He is described as a white male, 5'7" tall, weighing 160 pounds, with long brown hair and green eyes. He has a scar on his chest. Dental records are not available, but fingerprints are on file.
