On the afternoon of November 20, 1997, 45-year-old Curtis Allen Sr. was last seen at the Zipmart on Main Street in Emporia, Virginia, between 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. He was walking to his home on West End Boulevard when someone offered him a ride, and he got into their vehicle. He has never been heard from again.

Curtis Allen Sr. was a former Marine and a father of three. He suffered from epilepsy and was classified as disabled, requiring medication. At the time of his disappearance, he was on disability due to an injury sustained while working a construction job.
