A Teenager Disappears Without a Trace

On May 19, 2018, 17-year-old Bonifacio Miguel Pena vanished in Portage, Michigan. Known to friends and family as "Facio," Bonifacio was last seen leaving a residence he shared with a woman and his friend, Nicholas Johnson. The two departed on foot after receiving bandanas from the woman. Later that day, Nicholas returned alone, claiming Bonifacio had gotten into a car with unidentified friends. He possessed Bonifacio's bandana and appeared extremely anxious. Bonifacio has not been heard from since, and his disappearance was reported on May 23, 2018.   

Nicholas Johnson: A Person of Interest

Nicholas Johnson quickly became a person of interest in Bonifacio's disappearance. After Bonifacio went missing, Nicholas attempted to claim his belongings, prompting the woman they stayed with to secretly return them to Bonifacio's mother. In February 2021, Nicholas's parents, Gary and Laura Johnson, disappeared from their Portage home. A welfare check revealed signs of violence, and their bodies were later found in a state game area. Nicholas was arrested on outstanding warrants and subsequently charged with their murders.
