On February 3, 1990, eight-year-old Kristen Gray was enjoying a typical afternoon at the Dadeland Capri Apartments in Southwest Miami-Dade, where her stepfather, Ron Shirk, resided. Kristen, a vibrant child with a passion for ballet, had recently acquired a pair of white roller skates with blue wheels. That day, she eagerly took to the second-floor hallway of the apartment complex to practice her skating under the watchful eye of her stepfather, who was attending to laundry duties on the third floor.
The Mysterious Disappearance
Ron Shirk last recalled seeing Kristen around 1 p.m. As he moved between the laundry room and the hallway, he periodically checked on her. However, by 4 p.m., Kristen was nowhere to be found. Concerned, Shirk began a frantic search, questioning neighbors and scouring the building. Despite his efforts, there was no sign of Kristen.
