A Promising Young Man with Culinary Dreams

On a late Saturday night in November 2016, 22-year-old Adama Moye sat in his vehicle in Chicago's Longwood Manor neighborhood, awaiting a friend. Moye, the son of renowned percussionist Famoudou Don Moye of the avant-garde quintet Art Ensemble of Chicago, harbored aspirations of becoming a chef. He was diligently pursuing his culinary studies, with plans to join his father in Marseille, France, upon graduation. Family members recall his enthusiasm for the culinary arts and his eagerness to embark on this new chapter alongside his father.

A Sudden and Senseless Act of Violence

As Moye waited, a vehicle approached and halted beside his car. Without warning, an individual from the adjacent vehicle opened fire, striking Moye in the chest. The assailants then sped away, leaving Moye gravely wounded. Emergency responders transported him to a hospital in Oak Lawn, where, despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead.
