A Tragic Memorial Day Shooting
On the evening of May 27, 2002, Memorial Day, the tranquility of Washington, D.C.'s 100 block of 58th Street SE was shattered by the sound of gunfire. At approximately 9:30 p.m., officers from the Sixth District of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) responded to reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered three individuals lying on the ground, all suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Among them was 25-year-old William Gordon Clark, affectionately known to his family and friends as "Lucky." Despite being rushed to the Washington Hospital Center MedStar Unit, Clark succumbed to his injuries, leaving a community in mourning and a family seeking answers.
The Aftermath and Initial Investigation
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the MPD's Violent Crimes Branch launched an intensive investigation. Detectives canvassed the neighborhood, interviewed potential witnesses, and collected forensic evidence from the scene.
