Ronald Allen, a 73-year-old resident of Naperville, Illinois, was well-known for his unwavering commitment to community activism. Born and raised in Chicago's Austin neighborhood, Allen dedicated his life to fostering positive relationships between citizens and law enforcement. His efforts were particularly focused on bridging gaps in understanding and trust, aiming to create safer and more cohesive communities.
The Fateful Night
On December 2, 2016, Allen spent the evening engaging in one of his favorite pastimes—playing cards with friends in his old neighborhood. As the night drew to a close, he began his journey back home to Naperville. Tragically, while driving on the 1300 block of North Laramie Avenue, Allen was struck by a bullet. The gunshot caused him to lose control of his vehicle, leading to a crash. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
