A Life Cut Tragically Short

Renee Bergeron, originally from Marrero, Louisiana, was one of six children in a close-knit Cajun family. In her teenage years, she began experimenting with drugs, a path that eventually led her to Theodore, Alabama. There, she adopted the alias "Maria Martinez" and became known in the local community. Despite her struggles, Renee was a devoted mother, with her children residing with family in Louisiana during her time in Alabama.

The Horrific Discovery

On November 14, 1993, a passerby made a gruesome discovery along a dirt road off the I-10 Service Road in Theodore. The mutilated body of a woman was found, having been decapitated, with severed breasts, and mutilated sexual organs. The brutality of the crime shocked even seasoned investigators. Cadaver dogs were brought in and located her head approximately 100 yards from where her body was discovered.
