A Tragic Night in Northeast D.C.
In the early hours of Sunday, September 22, 2019, the tranquility of Washington, D.C.'s 200 block of 51st Street, Northeast, was shattered by the sound of gunfire. At approximately 12:58 a.m., Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officers responded to reports of a shooting in the area. Upon arrival, they discovered 21-year-old Rachid Ferguson, a resident of Northwest D.C., suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, Ferguson succumbed to his injuries, marking another tragic loss in the community.
The Immediate Aftermath
Following the incident, the MPD's Homicide Branch launched an intensive investigation into Ferguson's death. Recognizing the critical role of public assistance in solving such cases, the department offered a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
