On October 13, 2012, the life of 17-year-old Modell McCambry was tragically cut short in Chicago's Woodlawn neighborhood. Described by family members as an aspiring football player aiming for a scholarship, Modell's future was filled with potential. That evening, as he and his 18-year-old cousin walked along South Rhodes Avenue to meet a friend, they were approached by an assailant who opened fire, fatally wounding Modell and critically injuring his cousin. A Family's Repeated Heartbreak
The pain of losing Modell was compounded by a previous tragedy the family had endured. Just months earlier, Modell's older brother, Marlon Monroe, had been shot and killed in the same neighborhood. Their grandmother, Florine Monroe, who had already faced the unimaginable loss of one grandson, was now confronted with the death of another.
