A Morning of Tragedy
On the morning of April 18, 2017, the Back of the Yards neighborhood in Chicago was shaken by a brutal crime. At approximately 8:17 a.m., 24-year-old Marcus Triplett and 22-year-old Jacquetta Pearson were seated in a dark-colored vehicle in the 5100 block of South Halsted Street. Their routine morning was violently interrupted when a white vehicle approached them. Two individuals exited the car and opened fire, fatally wounding both Triplett and Pearson. The assailants then fled the scene, leaving the community in shock and mourning.
The Victims' Backgrounds
Marcus Triplett was a resident of the Back of the Yards neighborhood, known for its tight-knit community and rich history. Jacquetta Pearson hailed from the West Side's North Lawndale area, a neighborhood with its own unique challenges and strengths.
