In the early hours of July 13, 2011, tragedy struck at Cheetahs, a gentlemen's club located at Seventh Street and Indian School Road in Phoenix, Arizona. Between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m., patrons' revelry was shattered by the sound of gunfire. Amid the ensuing chaos, 37-year-old Mack Curtis Hill was fatally shot, his life abruptly ended in a place meant for entertainment and leisure.

Following the shooting, the assailant fled the scene, leaving behind a community in shock and mourning.
