A Fateful Night in West Englewood
On the evening of September 17, 2018, the West Englewood neighborhood of Chicago was shaken by a tragic event. At approximately 11:46 p.m., 42-year-old Levon S. Averhart was standing outside in the 5700 block of South Winchester Avenue when two males approached him. Without warning, one of the individuals produced a handgun and fired multiple shots, striking Averhart in the abdomen. Despite being rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center, Averhart succumbed to his injuries, leaving the community in mourning.
A Community Grieves
The loss of Levon Averhart resonated deeply within the West Englewood community. Known affectionately by some as "Cookie Man," Averhart was remembered for his vibrant personality and the joy he brought to those around him.
