A Fateful Night in Washington Park

In the early hours of March 10, 2017, the Washington Park neighborhood on Chicago's South Side was shaken by a violent incident that left two young men dead and two others injured. At approximately 2 a.m., gunfire erupted at a GoLo gas station located in the 100 block of East 51st Street. Among the victims was 24-year-old Lavelle J. Cox, whose life was abruptly ended in this senseless act of violence.

The Incident Unfolds

Witnesses reported that a gray four-door Chevrolet approached the gas station, and occupants of the vehicle opened fire on the individuals present before fleeing north on Indiana Avenue. Officers arriving at the scene discovered four men with gunshot wounds in the gas station's foyer. Lavelle Cox, a resident of the Grand Boulevard neighborhood, was pronounced dead at the scene, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Another victim, 24-year-old Jawon C.
