Jeanne Marie Gilbert, a 34-year-old mother of two, was a lifelong resident of Jasper County, Indiana. Recently divorced, she resided in Rensselaer with her children: 12-year-old Scott and 17-year-old Kimberly. Described as an outgoing and attractive blonde, Jeanne was known for her bubbly and fun-loving personality. She worked as a bookkeeper at Carter Oil Supply, Inc. during the day and took on a part-time night position as a night clerk at the Days Inn in Remington to support her family. Her dedication to her children and her commitment to providing for them were evident in her willingness to work multiple jobs.

The Fateful Night at Days Inn

On the icy evening of March 2, 1989, Jeanne was not scheduled to work but had switched shifts with a co-worker to attend her daughter Kimberly's final sectional game, where Kimberly was a cheerleader.
