A Promising Life Cut Short
On the evening of May 29, 2017, the Englewood neighborhood on Chicago's South Side was shaken by a tragic event that claimed the life of 17-year-old Jaywan Freeman. Jaywan, a resident of the Grand Crossing area, was known for his vibrant personality and was affectionately nicknamed "2 Trap" by those close to him. His untimely death left a void in the community and among his loved ones.
The Fateful Evening
Around 9:50 p.m., Jaywan stood with another 17-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man on the street in the 6900 block of South Harvard Avenue. The group was approached by an unidentified individual who, without warning, opened fire. Jaywan was struck in the head and was pronounced dead at the scene. The other two victims sustained injuries: the 17-year-old was shot in the left shoulder and transported to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, while the 20-year-old suffered an abdominal wound and was taken to Stroger Hospital.
