In the early hours of August 2, 2016, 29-year-old Donta J. Lee was walking along the sidewalk in the 5200 block of West Gladys Avenue in Chicago's Austin neighborhood. Without warning, a white car approached, and an unidentified gunman emerged, opening fire on Lee. The assailant then fled the scene, leaving Lee fatally wounded. Despite the efforts of first responders, Lee succumbed to his injuries, marking another tragic loss to gun violence in the city.
