Introduction

On January 16, 2020, the Louisville community was shaken by the tragic death of 27-year-old Derrick Lawrence. Lawrence was fatally shot at the intersection of McCloskey Avenue and Algonquin Parkway, a crime that remains unsolved to this day.

The Incident

On that fateful day, Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) officers responded to reports of a shooting in the Algonquin neighborhood. Upon arrival, they discovered Derrick Lawrence and another individual suffering from gunshot wounds at the intersection mentioned above. Both victims were transported to the University of Louisville Hospital with serious injuries. Tragically, Lawrence succumbed to his injuries, while the other victim's condition has not been publicly disclosed.
