A Rising Star Silenced
On the evening of March 24, 2015, the Denver community was shaken by the tragic loss of 21-year-old Rachel Aboytes, an emerging rap artist known by her stage name, "La Baby Smiley." Rachel was gunned down near East 16th Avenue and North Valentia Street, succumbing to multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the passage of time, her murder remains unsolved, leaving a void in the hearts of her family, friends, and fans.
The Fateful Night
Around 8:40 p.m. on that ill-fated evening, Rachel and a friend were walking home from a bar when they were approached by a speeding gray Jeep Cherokee. An altercation ensued, during which a woman inside the vehicle reportedly shouted, "Dispárele, papi, dispárele!" ("Shoot her, daddy, shoot her!").
